                  Leeds-Hartford Parish Mission Statement

"Through the working of the Holy Spirit, we feel God's presence in our lives, and strive to live as faithful testimonies to the love of Jesus Christ. 'Whatsoever you do to the least of my brothers' is never far from thought. We pray every person who honors us by attending will feel the warmth of acceptance, the joy of the Holy Spirit and the wonder of God's grace.
                  Our Church Family
We are a congregation of young and old from a wide variety of backgrounds. Everyone is welcome! Our members come from various Christian traditions. The Hartford Community Church is “yoked” with the Leeds Community Church (Leeds, ME) in that we share one pastor and have a common mission.

                  Deacons
Six members of our congregation are elected to the Board of Deacons. They serve as care givers within the wider Hartford community. Their ministry involves reaching out to our neighbors, helping families in temporary financial distress and providing Thanksgiving baskets to the needy.

                  Christian Education
Sunday School classes for children ages four to 14 are held every Sunday. Our young people complete yearly mission projects and have quarterly social gatherings. Vacation Bible School is held each summer when many children from Hartford and neighboring towns join our regular students. From time to time we have adult bible study programs and have occasionally joined with Leeds Community Church for adult bible study.

                  Worship Regular
Sunday worship is at 8:30 a.m. On the first Sunday of each month we celebrate the Lord’s Supper. Coffee hour and good fellowship on the third Sunday.

                  History
The building stood on Gurney Hill, which was the early center of Hartford. In 1858, the building was moved by oxen to its present location on Church Street where it served as a Methodist church. The building survived a hurricane in 1892 when the roof was blown off but was closed in 1941. The Hartford Historical and Improvement Society acquired the building from the Methodist Conference and kept it in repair, using it to hold annual meetings and to celebrate Old Home Days. The church building was deeded to the Hartford Community Church in 1968.

The true beginning of the Hartford Community Church was May 18, 1955, when services were organized by the Rev. Carl Geores and held at the Hartford Town Hall. After the building was deeded to the Hartford Community Church, the congregation began to worship year-round in our present location in 1985 when a wood-burning stove was installed. The building represents almost 200 years of Hartford history and community family gatherings of the faithful.

Over the years as our ministry has grown, we have added a kitchen, bathroom and two meeting rooms to the building. Recently, the sanctuary was renovated with a new hardwood floor, attractive, period-appropriate lighting and fresh paint to the walls and pews.
