Our minister for the month of February is Rev. George Hardy. Worship is at 10:00 a.m. every Sunday. George has lead worship for us many times in the last few years. We enjoy his thought provoking sermons and his wonderful singing voice! He would like to encourage volunteer readers for the worship service. George travels to us from his home in Topsham.
February 28th is an important Sunday for The United in Christ Presbyterian Church. We'll be installing 3 elders. Ray Corey, Carol Phillips and Barbara Simone have stepped up to lead our Church.
Applications for Food and Faith will be available through the Starks food cupboard. The objective of the Food and Faith program is to take a meal to someone in need of nourishment both physical and spiritual. If you know anyone that would welcome a visit and a meal let me know at the number above and we'll set it up. You can also call Amy Palmer 778-4158 to set up a visit. It's not necessary to fill out an application--it's just a way for us to determine who would welcome this ministry. Also, if you would be willing to make food but don't have the time to take it to someone, there are others who would be willing to do that. It is truly a way for us to be the hands and feet of Christ in our community.
Our book club meets Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 6:30p.m. at the Church. We'll be sharing our views on the last two sections of "Always Looking Up The Adventures of An Incurable Optimist" by Michael J. Fox. We'll be discussing stem cell research and its moral and ethical implications.
We'll be choosing another book soon. Does anyone have any ideas? Please bring your suggestions to the Book Club meeting.
Exciting news for the kids of Starks and West Mills---
A field trip to the Maine State Museum Feb. 18 for children and chaperones of all ages. The Church will provide transportation and admission costs. We've lined up two interesting gallery programs--wool carding and arrowhead making. Bring a bag lunch and we'll have a picnic in the museum lobby. We may meet with our state representative, Paul Gilbert and take a tour of the Capitol building. Send me an email and I'll send you a permission slip. It's not necessary to fill out a permission slip for your kids if you're coming along on the trip. We'll leave at 9:00 a.m. from the Church and return to the Church at 2:30p.m.

Please let me know of anyone in the community that would like to receive communion at home this month. Last month's home communions were a real blessing . It is an honor to be able to help bring this sacrament to those who want it. You don't have to be a church member or have ever gone to church before in your life to receive communion.
