Local Ministries

Here are some of our local ministries and programs that we support within our community.

Christmas Caroling

As Christmas approaches we travel by carloads to sing Christmas carols for some of our senior citizens and shut-ins.

Church Choir

Marjorie McCollister leads our small choir each week with rehearsals at 7:45 a.m. each Sunday to prepare for to the morning’s services.

Clothing Center

The Clothing Center is located in the old Union School on Church Street across from the Hartford Community Church building. The Clothing Center is a resale shop, which is open on the first and third Saturday of each month. The Center may also be opened by the Deacons to aid families in immediate need following a crisis. All members of the community are encouraged to donate and shop at the clothing center.

Food Bank

Town of Hartford Food Bank is located in the church building. The Food Bank is open one Saturday each month for those in need. The congregation and Sunday School children occasionally collect canned food and household items to supplement that which is provided by the Food Bank.

Keep Hartford Warm

In the fall, several members of the congregation volunteer their time to help needy residents of Hartford insulate their homes against the harsh Maine winter. Volunteers install weather-stripping around windows and doors, cover water pipes with insulation and “shrink-wrap” windows.

Westminister Church, Buffalo, NY, Youth Workgroup

Every summer we welcome a dedicated group of high school youth and adults who come to Hartford from Buffalo, NY to help repair homes for needy families and to cut and split fire wood for our fuel bank. Members of the work group lead us in Sunday worship while they are visiting and we host them during the middle of the week with a barbeque at Bear Pond.

Women’s Group

Composed of members of the church and other women who live in the community, the group meets monthly and focuses on shared Bible studies, local mission projects, fundraisers to support mission requests and good fellowship. The Women’s Group organizes suppers, an annual community Christmas Fair, sells craft items at other events, and prepares holiday cheer baskets.
